I posted a picture there of my bicycle project. I'm out of town most of the time for work so instead of wrenching on my cars for very, very long amounts of time and not finishing I decided to lower my sites a little and do the bike. It's a mid-70s Huffy I bought in New Orleans for $30 the week before Katrina hit. It had a three speed hub and cable brakes, fenders, reflectors, etc. but I got rid of all that shit and stripped it down completely. I bought a new rear rim w/coaster brake, new bars for the front which I narrowed 2cm on each side, new seat, sprocket, grips, tires/tubes, and neck(new pedals not shown). I had to sand all the chrome off the rims with a dremel(sandblasting didn't work) and sanded the frame and forks by hand. I then sprayed everything with four coats of automotive paint then 3 coats of clear mixed with gold pearl(the pearl looks better in sunlight). I welded a small chain on the forks for fun, too. It rides great, it's not for speed or anything, just Sunday rides. I also have a rack with will go on the rear.

Re: A bike project
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 10:58 PMAs an American kid spawned from the suburbs of the mid seventies, I am obligated to point and laugh at the kid with the new Huffy, and maybe kick his ass.
As a grownup with a healthy fetish for rescuing, buying, and coveting formerly un-cool conveances and transforming them into works of art, visions of the future and scandalous chick magnets: Show us the naughty photos Jade! -

Re: A bike project
Fri, May 5, 2006 - 3:23 PMWell, it only took 7 months to finish it(I started it the day Hurricane Rita hit). I posted a couple of new photos of the bike here, more if you click on my profile. I pronounce it done, minus a cool prop to wedge under the kickstand for the Abita Springs bike show I plan on going to. Comments? : ) ?
